So what is wrong with Animal Rights? Don't they help protect dogs and cats around the country by providing shelters and rescue? Absolutely not! One of the main goals of the Animal Rights Movement is to ELIMINATE PETS! Wayne Pacelle, CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, says "One generation and out".  No more zoos, no films with animals (unless they are computer generated), no pets, no animal use or ownership of any kind! HSUS is not affiliated with any animal shelter but they derive a lot of benefit from the local shelters calling themselves "Humane Society of ____".

So what is the difference between Animal Rights and Animal Welfare? Animal welfare organizations work for the humane treatment of animals and animal rights organizations work to completely end the use and ownership of animals. For a clear understanding of the differences between animal welfare (which we support) and animal rights please see the National Animal Interest Alliance page: http://www.naiaonline.org/body/articles/archives/policy_intro.htm#welfare

A true Animal Rightist believes animals are better off dead than owned by loving compassionate people who take wonderful care of their pets and who live in the lap of luxury as compared to their feral brethren. Can you imagine abandoning Fluffy out on the streets or in the country and telling her to fend for herself? Exposing her to disease, predators, starvation and likely death (the average age for feral/stray cats is 2 years). This is supposed to be better for them? Think about it next time you consider writing a check to HSUS or PeTA  (or other animal rights organizations) because this is their future. And they are working towards this goal by legislation: companion animals and pet guardianship laws, breeder legislation, limit laws, etc.
